History

For many years, the magical community of Hreth has studied the inhabitants of other worlds and realms. They have focused not on the humanoid species of each, but on non-human creatures both great and small, fascinated by the diversity shown in their habits and cultures. Draconic, canine, feline, lapine, and things too unique to categorize: they marveled at them all.

Eventually it was decided that some of the more adaptable species should be acquired and cared for in a special location, a sanctuary of sorts. There they would be cared for and observed in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. Many thought this plan to be a good one but there was one obvious flaw.

The caretakers would have to be mages capable of catering to any special needs of the creatures. People capable of using magic were rare in their society and highly prized, the masters being revered and allowed free reign in their studies. None of them could devote themselves fully to the task, as would be needed. They would have to call upon the services of younger, less experienced magic users.

Eight elemental apprentices were gathered for the project. They were chosen for their skill within their areas and their willingness to give of themselves for their future charges. Each helped to construct their area according to their needs and desires.
